Valerie Fairman is being remembered by her MTV family.
The former 16 and Pregnant star was found unresponsive by a friend on Wednesday. Fairman’s mother, Janice, told ET on Thursday that while the report from the medical examiner is not yet complete, it’s suspected that she died of a drug overdose. Fairman was 23.
Teen Mom 2 star Jenelle Evans, who appeared with Fairman on season two of 16 and Pregnant in 2010, was among the first of Fairman’s MTV family to comment on her death, taking to Instagram to pay tribute to her friend.
“Rest Easy Angel. 💔👼 #RIPValerie my heart is heavy and my prayers go out to your family and Nevaeh,” she wrote.
Earlier in the day, Evans explained in since-deleted tweets that she had stayed in touch with Fairman and encouraged her to stay sober.
“Oh my god. 😢 I just spoke to her a couple months ago and told her I’m proud of her and looks like she’s doing good. 💔,” she tweeted. “This really upsets me. … I told her to stay on track. 😞💔.
During her time on the show, Fairman frequently fought with her boyfriend Matt, who was unsure whether or not he was Nevaeh’s father. It took a DNA test to convince him that the baby was his. The reality star previously struggled with substance abuse and had several run-ins with the law. She was arrested in 2015 on prostitution charges in Delaware, and a week before her death, she was arrested for resisting arrest and giving false identification to police.
